Water control structures are used in North Carolina to manage the dpeth of the ground water in fields in eastern North Carolina. By manipulating the depth of the water table, farmers can promote the denitrification as a means of protecting water quality
Though most developed countries treat sewage, treatment levels do not generally remove nutrients from the wastewater that is discharged. One exception is the state of Maryland (U.S.) where all major sewage treatment plants are required to upgrade to enhanced nutrient removal technologies that will remove most of the nutrients from the wastewater.
A trickling filter bed water treatment system. Also known as percolating filters, this simple wastewater treatment system consists of spraying wastewater into a corrugated medium (e.g. stone, gravel) where a layer of microorganisms (biofilm) exists. As the water traverses through the medium, organic particles are attached to the biofilm eliminating organic residues. Small filters such as this one are recommended for use in farms or places lacking municipal sewage treatment systems.
